Organized by IDP Education (Cambodia), IDP Next Step brought together over 2000 students, most of whom recently graduated from high school, from various provinces across Cambodia. The event, which took place from 14 to 18 September 2019 at the Australian Centre for Education (ACE) Tuol Tom Poung campus, provided a platform for parents and students to have face-to-face interaction with the experienced IDP counselling team. Representatives of different scholarship programs gave advice and guidance on study options in countries including Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK and Ireland. IDP Education provided free study abroad counselling and application assistance, and entry to the event was free.

IDP Education is a world leader in international education and student placement services for Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK and Ireland. IDP now has over 100 offices in more than 32 countries worldwide.

“When students come to IDP Next Step, they can ask for information about scholarships or studying abroad in general. Our counselling team is here to help, providing them with necessary information and directing them to the most suitable university”, said Thet Marady, ACE Representative.

Also represented at the event were alumni from different student organizations and scholarship programs including Australian Award Scholarship, New Zealand Scholarship, Chevening Scholarship and Fulbright Alumni Association of Cambodia (FUSAAC). Alumni who previously studied abroad were invited to give presentations about their experiences.

“I used to be a high school student who had no idea what kind of scholarships were on offer to me when I stepped into university. I did not have the chance to explore those opportunities, so I really want to share information with the next generation”, said Chhun Venyuory, a former Global Undergraduate (UGRAD) participant.

During the event, representatives from ACE and IELTS Cambodia Official Test Centre provided opportunities for parents and students to learn more about the English language programs on offer, and IELTS test taking and preparation in Cambodia.

When asked what she found most useful about the event, Sovanratana Boung, a local high school student, said, “I think it is very helpful that I can get information about so many different countries in just one place. It saves a lot of time, and it is also very efficient. The IDP staff are really helpful.”
