Why Study in the UK?

By Joelia Chheng, Counsellor

The UK is a top destination for international students with an excellent reputation for academic excellence and thousands of courses available. There are many reasons for studying in the UK, some of which are academic. In addition to a high quality education, however, you will gain a lot of value from the once in a lifetime experience of studying in the UK.

  • High quality education: In the 2018 Times Higher Education World Rankings, the top two were the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. The high standard of UK universities is also demonstrated by the fact that seven of the top 50 and 32 of the top 200 were UK universities.
  • Cost: University degrees take less time in the UK than in other countries. Undergraduate degrees mainly take three years and postgraduate degrees mainly take one year. Accordingly, you won’t spend a lot on tuition fees. You’re also permitted to work for up to 20 hours per week while you study, and to work full-time once you have completed a university degree.
  • A unique culture: The UK is a unique country. Its weather and traditional buildings are beautiful. The UK has a rich and interesting history that makes it an ideal place for people of all backgrounds. The nightlife is different all over the UK, and there is always something to do. Art galleries, concerts, open-air markets and pubs are popular places for the English to congregate and enjoy themselves. You will also have the chance to meet and interact with people from many different cultures, with over 200,000 international students in the UK.
  • Gateway to Europe: From the UK, you can easily travel to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and learn about the different lifestyles in each country. You can also reach most areas of Europe from the UK within a few hours by train or direct flight.
