The New Moodle

By Jimmy Giannotti, ACE Lead Moodle Teacher

Moodle, ACE’s virtual learning environment (VLE), has undergone many changes in the past year. Furthermore, terms 1 and 2 of 2016 will see even more developments. Let’s take a look at the changes!

The old Moodle featured static pages that were little more than a set of links. The new Moodle is an interactive platform where students can communicate, collaborate and create. The new Moodle emphasizes student interaction and social learning. Most importantly, the new Moodle is mobile! Now students and teachers can use Moodle on their smart phones and tablets via the Moodle mobile app: thus, making the Moodle experience easier and more accessible.

Term 4 of 2015 saw the introduction of all new EAP Moodle pages. Some of the key interactive features of these pages are as follows: forums for class discussions, the ability for students to create and upload video and audio content, and collaborative student wikis.

What’s next? In term 1 of 2016, we will introduce all new pages for GEP 11a, 11b and 12. Of course, these pages will support the course textbook. However, there will be an added focus on IELTS preparation, providing students with even more value. ACE has recently adopted the New English File textbooks. These textbooks will be fully applied to all GEP courses up to GEP 10 by term 2. Therefore, in term 2 of 2016 we are planning on rolling out new Moodle pages to support the new textbook.

Our Moodle program endeavors to provide students and teachers with an exciting, easy to use, interactive, and cutting edge VLE.
