Guided Individual Learning Centre
By Thida Sok, ACE Toul Tom Poung Campus Manager

Have you checked out ACE’s Tuol Tom Poung Campus yet? If you have not then make time to see what is new about this Campus.

The Guided Individual Learning Centre is the newest achievement at the campus. It amazes everyone who walks into the centre because of its state of the art design and available learning resources. You will certainly be amazed when you see it.

The GIL Centre was recently opened and is located on the fourth floor. It provides a quiet and comfortable environment for students to improve their language proficiency in various ways. Different areas are designated in the centre for various purposes. There are three discussion rooms, which students can use for group projects and discussions without disturbing other people. There are also comfortable sofas where students can watch TV, read magazines or speak quietly with their friends. Open space tables suit those who want to work alone on their homework or practice tests. Computers are set up to enhance modern technology-oriented study with many useful software programs. These include podcasts, read up speed up, IELTS practice listening, tense burster, active reading, and sky pronunciation, for the four language macro skills development. What is more amazing about the GIL Centre is that Language Learning Advisors are available to help those who are seriously interested in autonomous learning, or those who need extra academic help outside the classroom.

Is the GIL Centre at Tuol Tom Poung Campus that truly amazing? Let's read some comments from some students who have used it.

CHIM Chanminea, GEP 11B, T3, 2015

I think the GIL Centre at TTP is good because it provides us with many programs, and it's much better than those at other campuses. It is wide and there are enough seats for students who want to practice and prepare for IELTS tests. What I like best about the GIL Centre is "Goosebumps series" because it's the best book series that I have known, so I would like to spend my time reading those interesting books in the GIL Centre. The GIL Centre helps me improve my language proficiency because I am going to have the IELTS test next term, and it's a good place to improve my listening and reading tests.

KHUT Phalviphon, GEP 10, T3, 2015

The GIL Centre at TTP is comfortable and convenient for students to do any kind of research at school. The best thing I like about the GIL Centre is the peaceful environment. I would spend my leisure time in the GIL Centre, not only for improving my English proficiency but also having fun with a new idea of individual learning. The GIL Centre helps me improve my language proficiency, especially my listening skill because the GIL Centre provides a GIL Centre song function that convinces students to learn through entertainment. This is a new concept to improve our listening skill.

SRY Sorita, GEP 12, T3, 2015

I think the GIL Centre at TTP is good and wide. Students can gain more knowledge and also ameliorate their reading and listening skills. The GIL Centre has many benefits for students who are going to take their IELTS test. In the GIL Centre, I like to practice reading and listening skills because my reading and listening skills are not good enough, so I need to practice these two skills in the GIL Centre, which is the best place for me to practice. I would like to spend my time by practicing reading, listening, writing and speaking skills because I am going to have the IELTS test this term. The GIL Centre helps me improve my language proficiency by providing many valuable skills that are important for my test as well as my aim of studying abroad.

DEAP Pich Kata, GEP 12, T3, 2015

The GIL Centre at TTP is a modern place that provides lots of useful materials. Everything here can help me with my IELTS preparation as well as improving my English. When I first came here, I felt very fresh and free because it was quiet and everything was new, which made me excited about studying individually. I want to spend my time checking any interesting news and learning new vocabulary. I sometimes practice my reading with reading packs here and I learn from my mistakes. The GIL Centre helps me a lot. I usually learn from many useful tips through the GIL Centre materials including newspaper cutting files, which improve my understanding and reading speed. There are many software programs that I and my friends gain benefits from. Finally, I always feel relaxed to study and improve my English.

LAY Kuyhouy, GEP 12, T3, 2015

The GIL Centre at TTP is the most comfortable place for self-study compared to the GIL Centres at other campuses. It is bigger, more modern, and it looks fascinating. There are lots of study materials to help individual students enhancing their abilities. I feel good and fresh every time I enter here. It's quiet and relaxing, which makes me want to come here every day. I come to the GIL Centre two or three times a week, mostly in the afternoon for about two or three hours practicing reading and listening exercises. The GIL Centre helps me a lot. I know more new vocabulary from reading tests and improve my speaking when talking to native speakers through listening tests. Moreover, I can improve my general knowledge by reading newspaper cutting files and story books.

HO Soksopheaktra, GEP 11B, T3, 2015

I think the GIL Centre is pretty great, comfortable, but it is a little bit dark. It would be great if it was lighter. It has enough space for all students to learn or improve their skills because the furniture is very comfortable, and there are also meeting rooms where students can discuss or share some new experience. I'd like to spend my time in the GIL Centre for self-studying, searching some new information, and mostly practicing IELTS tests. It helps me improve my language proficiency by some of the books. It has enough information that I have searched for, and there are also lots of IELTS practice tests that can help me for an upcoming IELTS test.
