Faculties and Programs
VUW has seven faculties on four campuses offering from pathway programs, 3 – 4 years undergraduate program, and 1 – 2 yeas master programs up to 3 years PhD.
- School of Architecture covers on architectural studies, landscape, building science, and design.
- Victoria Business School covers on commerce, tourism management, public policy and information studies.
- Faculty of Education covers on arts in education, teaching, education, professional development and psychology.
- Faculty of Engineering covers on general science, engineering and computer science.
- Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences covers on arts, international relation, health care, health science, TESOL, and applied linguistic.
Faculty of Law covers on law.
Faculty of Science covers on science, biomedical science, clinical, development study, environmental studies and marine conservation.
Academic Year
Victoria’s academic year divides into three trimesters:
Trimester 1 – March to June Trimester 2 – July to November Trimester 3 – November to February
Trimesters 1 and 2 make up the regular academic year. Many qualifications can begin in either Trimester 1 or 2 and a few majors may have restricted intake dates |
Tuition Fee
The tuition fees quoted are1 based on 120 points of study within the Faculty offering the qualification, unless otherwise stated. A standard year of full-time study is equivalent to two trimesters or 120 points. The actual fee you will pay will depend on the number of points in which you enroll and the Faculty from which you select courses. Undergraduate fees are charged at the following rates:
- School of Architecture $240.83 per point
- School of Design $231.25 per point
- Victoria Business School $199.17 per point
- Faculty of Education $165.73 per point
- Faculty of Engineering $244.58 per point
- Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences $182.50 per point
- Faculty of Law $225.42 per point
- Faculty of Science $219.17 per point

Entry Requirement for Most Subjects (English - IELST)
Undergraduate: 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 Postgraduate 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 |
Pathway Program
The Institute also provides English language courses and consultancies for special professional or academic groups at other times on request.
English Academic Preparation (EAP) program is for students of an intermediate level or above (4.0 IELTS). Student will be tested on the first day of the program. If your English language ability is assessed to be lower than the appropriate level, student should consider undertaking an alternative course of English language study before entering this program.
Courses are 12 weeks long and offered at different times of the year. Student can combine two or three into a 24- or 36-week program of intensive English. Short breaks in the middle of courses and between courses give student time to relax and enjoy Wellington or visit other parts of New Zealand.
Foundation Studies was designed for student is not eligible for direct entry for an undergraduate program. A fully enrolled student of Victoria University of Wellington which means student will have access to all the University’s facilities and support services. There are three entry dates each year: February, July and October.
Students who pass six courses will receive the Certificate in Foundation Studies. The Certificate guarantees you entry to all undergraduate degree programs at Victoria University of Wellington (note that very highly specialized programs such as Music Performance have extra requirements). The Certificate is also accepted as an entrance qualification for all other New Zealand universities.
