My name is Hokly Yim and now I'm living Austin, Texas, United States. I'm a student at Austin Communities College and I'm studying Computer Science.

When I first arrived here it’s seemed to be a different world from where I used to live and grow up because everything is totally different from what I was used to seeing. As we know we never feel anywhere as warmly as our home and being by yourself a long distance from where you used to live is pretty challenging, but life is about learning new things and observing new experiments.

The interesting things about here are that I have been doing more research and self-learning than in Cambodia; everything has to be researched and learned more. In Cambodia when I want to study I go to school and register for the major and they make up schedule and I have to follow it. But here I can customize class times and subjects to fit with myself and I could meet different people from different major to study with me.

I had done a lot of research before I chose Austin Community College because they have the major that I preferred to study and they have a good environment and location. I really enjoy studying here at ACC because they have great professors, the study environment is really great and silent which makes me focus when I study, and they also have a gym for students to work out to release stress.

The difficulty that I have to face is with the climate because I get allergic to the weather. When you decide to study abroad you have to make sure where you want to study and research the schools before you decide which one to go for. One of the important things is that you have to decide what major you want to study because it’s really important to your future career and it’s also helps to you not to waste a lot of time and money.
