Having Fun while Learning: Children’s Program (CP)
By Sopoan Keo, ACE Teacher
The Australian Centre for Education (ACE) has a specialised program for children aged 8-10: the ACE Children's Program (CP). This program teaches essential English skills such as phonics and English literacy to give students a sound foundation in their English language study. CP students also develop their vocabulary, understanding of English grammar, reading skills and more. Lessons are highly visual and incorporate movement and staged activities, which support the students in their learning. It is not a requirement for CP students to be literate in English before they enroll in the CP Program at ACE. Hear from two students below on their experience at ACE in the ACE Children’s Program.
What are you learning in the Children’s Program?
English is one of my favorite subjects. We are learning five skills in class: reading, listening, writing, speaking and projects. Listening, reading and writing are my strongest skills. My favourite class activity is projects. It is really fun to work in a team and decorate a poster about different things that we have already learned. My experience in this program has been amazing. We learn new words in each class and use them in our writing. We have fun in reading challenges and we learn to give short presentations and listen to each other’s stories.

What is your favourite activity in the Children’s Program?
I really enjoy reading. I have read 100 books and completed a gold card in the Star Reader Program. There are a lot of books I like, and I have learned a lot of new things from reading. I love reading because I find it fun, especially when I am free from my studies. Of all the books that I have read, my favourite is Little Red Riding Hood. It is a folk tale about a girl called Little Red Riding Hood. It is the story of a young girl who goes to her grandma’s house where she encounters a big bad wolf.
