Story from the Inside
By Lyheang Kaing, Marketing Officer, IDP Education (Cambodia)

I’m honoured to be able to share my journey at IDP Education (Cambodia) with I’mACE Magazine readers. I was born in Kompong Thom, and I moved to live and study in Phnom Penh more than six years ago. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the Institute of Foreign Languages, majoring in International Relations in 2015 and TEFL in 2017. I am currently undertaking an MBA at Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia.

I started my career in 2014, as a Client Service Officer at IDP Education (Cambodia). I enhanced my marketing skills in 2016, while working at a private university, before returning to IDP in 2017 to join the marketing and business development team. It’s funny to reflect on my educational choices and my career choices, as they’re totally different. It took me more than two years to find my professional passion. I’ve worked as an English teacher at an NGO, and have also completed an internship at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – neither of those roles fit my personality. When I moved into marketing and business development, I realised that I enjoy this work so much.

I’ve now been working in the marketing and business development team at IDP for over two years. I’ve faced a lot of challenges and learned a lot of new skills. When I started, most of the marketing tools and platforms I use today were new to me. I learned how to use them simply with hands-on practice. I’ve continued to improve my skills with practice and research, and through participating in various training and e-learning opportunities. We use digital marketing platforms widely at IDP – these include Google Analytics, SEO and social media campaigns. Ongoing training is crucial to remaining up-to-date in the ever-changing and advancing area of digital knowledge.

My great team and work environment at IDP are really special to me. We all have the opportunity to develop professionally, and we share responsibilities, knowledge and friendship. These aspects of my work make me feel like I’m at home here.

Exploring and finding your professional passion is essential. If you haven’t found yours yet, don’t worry, and don’t be afraid to explore. Choose a career and workplace in which you can realise your full potential and continue to develop.
