ACE Siem Reap Student Receives a Scholarship to Study in Switzerland!

By Tep Khemarin Chan

Studying abroad is considered a dream by many young Cambodians in the 21st Century, but many students think that this dream is impossible because of their family’s financial issues. However, receiving a scholarship is one of the many methods that will continue the hope young Cambodians have to pursue their higher education in a foreign country. Fortunately, I have been offered a scholarship by a boarding school in Switzerland called Leysin American School (LAS).

Switzerland is a magnificent country with breathtaking scenery and the county has called by many people: Heaven on Earth; a place that one could only dream of. Who would have thought, that a young boy from a small developing nation in South East Asia would get to study in a country which is located thousands of kilometres away, in another part of the world?

I will be studying in the International Baccalaureate programme (IB), which originated from Switzerland. It is an academic programme which is recognized by many countries around the globe. On top of the programme, living in Switzerland will be challenging both physically and mentally. Continuing my education in Switzerland will allow me the opportunity to receive admissions into top universities in the world. Receiving a world-class education means I will be well prepared for my future.

Living in a foreign country will be really challenging, but it can also give you advantages in your future career. Nevertheless, studying abroad is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.

For those who are thinking about applying for a scholarship, do it! For those of you, who fail to get a scholarship, don’t give up yet. After all, you only need one “yes’’ to succeed.

If I gave up the first time, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
